Healthy Natural Recipe: Salt-Sugar Solution For Baby Diarrhoea

baby diarrhoea

Sugar-Salt solution is one healthy natural recipe which is useful when a child is suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting and due to which he becomes water and sodium deficient. Diarrhoea is a condition when one suffers from watery stools for 3-4 times a day and baby diarrhoea happens normally in the children of the age group of 6 months to 2 years which leads to dehydration and sodium deficiency in the body of the child due to lack of water and salt.

In case of baby diarrhoea there is no need to discontinue feeding milk to the infant, instead there must be a change in the diet of the child, feed the child with light and diluted food such as mashed banana, curd etc.

  • 200 ml of water
  • Common salt (as required)
  • Baking soda (as required)
  • Sugar (as required)

To prepare a healthy natural recipe of Salt-Sugar, boil one glass of water (around 200 ml) in a pot, add a pinch of salt to the water, a pinch of baking soda (if available) and a teaspoon of sugar (if you want to add glucose, then add half the amount of sugar and if you are adding jaggery then it should be equivalent to the size of one betel nut), prepare a solution. Store it in a glass jar and cover the lid.

Give 1-2 tablespoon of this solution to the infant after every half an hour (according to the thirst of the child), and continue the treatment until the diarrhoea stops and the infant urinates twice.

  • This solution should be prepared after every 12 hours by throwing the remaining solution. Make sure that you use the fresh solution every time.
  • The amount of sugar and salt in the prescribed quantities prevents the serious effects of baby diarrhoea.
  • You should continue feeding the child during and after the disease like mother’s milk. Do not stop giving water to the infant. Give water in small quantities. At the same time feed the child with lentil water, diluted curd, coconut water and other nutritious liquids.
  • Children below the age of 2 years should be fed with mashed bananas and children exceeding the age of 2 years, rice and curd is the best food in this condition.
  • Be careful not to start giving solid diet as soon as the diarrhoea is cured, rather feed the child with skimmed milk. After that, other nutritious and digestible foods such as porridge, khichdi (hodgepodge) should be given. After feeding vegetable and fruit juice (various types of soups and fruit juices), bring the patient back to the normal diet.
